Description

Principle of the Assay: The Human SFRP5 ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Human SFRP5 in Cell Culture Supernates, Serum, Plasma. This assay employs an antibody specific for Human SFRP5 coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and SFRP5 present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Human SFRP5 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of SFRP5 bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Background: Secreted frizzled-related protein 5 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SFRP5 gene. SFRP5 is a member of the SFRP family that contains a cysteine-rich domain homologous to the putative Wnt-binding site of Frizzled proteins. SFRPs act as soluble modulators of Wnt signaling. SFRP5 and SFRP1 may be involved in determining the polarity of photoreceptor cells in the retina. SFRP5 is highly expressed in the retinal pigment epithelium, and moderately expressed in the pancreas
